This tool does the maths for you and can also split everything between several people.

In the United States, 15–20% is the usual range for restaurant table service, with 18–20% considered standard for good service and 25% generous. Other countries tip far less or not at all, since service may already be included — so use the preset buttons as a quick guide and adjust to your local custom and the quality of service. Tipping norms vary widely, so the right amount is ultimately up to you.

Set "Split between" to the number of people and the calculator divides the total — bill plus tip — evenly, showing the amount each person pays and how much of that is tip. Use the round option if you want each share (or the overall total) rounded up to a clean number, which is handy when everyone is paying in cash.

Customarily the tip is based on the pre-tax bill, but many people simply tip on the total including tax for convenience — the difference is usually small. This calculator applies your chosen percentage to whatever bill amount you enter, so for a strictly pre-tax tip, type the amount before tax; to tip on the full amount, enter the post-tax total.
